About acupuncture
Needle and laser treatment options with clear expectations.
We use acupuncture as a traditional form of Chinese Medicine that may involve very fine needles or a laser beam at strategic points connected by meridians.
Treatment response
What to expect from acupuncture.
We give clear expectations for people considering acupuncture. The key point is simple: response and duration vary, especially for chronic concerns.
A course, not a single appointment
We explain that acupuncture is not a one-session treatment. A chronic disease of several years' duration may require about ten to twelve treatments to achieve the greatest relief possible.
Response can vary
Three quarters of patients who are successfully treated are described as noticing a response with the first treatment, while others may notice an initial response after several hours or days.
Maintenance may be recommended
Mild concerns may need fewer treatments, while more severe or chronic concerns may need maintenance acupuncture at six to eight week intervals after a set course.
Temporary reactions can occur
A few patients may feel temporarily worse after treatment, especially after the first treatment. We explain that this tends to pass in a few hours or a day or two.
